Friday, March 28th, 2008

In 1962 I went to a club in waco texas that was located at corinth and industrial. I had a picture of myself and my date made there. The cover on the picture is as follows. “enjoy rhythm and blues” at GUTBYEY’S corinth at industrial. I am unable to find this intersection on current yahoo map of waco. Industrial is there, but corinth is not. What happened to this street and where was it located in the city of waco, texas ?

I LOVE the name Rhythm Blue if I have a baby girl. What do you guys think?! I love it because I’ve always wanted to name my kid a Musical name…but I didn’t like the names Melody, or Harmony, or Cadence or whatever. But I really like Rhythm. But I want other people’s opinions so please tell me what you think!

Inverting a blues 1 4 5 progression going into the lower octave, in the second line A of the AAB?

Monday, March 10th, 2008

Please help a melodically trained musician write the first rhythm bass line! After writing a new blues melody, 12 bar and AAB, I used a very simple I, IV, V, four quarters to each bar. The second version of line A is higher and harmonizes with line A, sounding good with I, IV, V, I… but it seems more interesting to invert the progression going down, from I, three and one half steps down to the IV, down one step to the IV, and back up to octave I.
The next line is IV, V, I, I an octave higher, for line B.
Is this wrong, or just unorthodox?

Blues band?

Wednesday, March 5th, 2008

I have played piano for 9 years now and I would love to start a blues band… just something to start with.
I can play blues piano music but I don’t know anyone else who can play a guitar, harmonica, or a bass or any other instrument they all only know piano!
So I’m trying to come up with a simple rhythm but I just can’t seem to do it on a piano.
I’m having a hard time with this. Teenagers (people my age) don’t enjoy music like blues or psychedelic rock or soul music anymore. They only like modern rock and rap nowadays so it is hard to find someone.
What should I do?
