When playing guitar, how do u knw which scale to use when rhythm guitar/bass is switching evry 4th beat or so?

Monday, September 15th, 2008

So I know blues scales and what not, but I’ve noticed that no site actually teaches you which scale to play, depending on what the other instruments are playing. If the bass/rhythm is switching every fourth beat, do I have to switch my scale every fourth beat?

Friday, September 5th, 2008

I need to transcribe a drum solo for my theory class by Thursday. It’s gotta be either a 12bar blues or a regular rhythm changes. Does anyone know any good recordings where the drummer plays an easy solo? Or relatively easy?

What is so specific about classic elite Chicago blues music?

Wednesday, September 3rd, 2008

I got one explanation Chicago blues: What is Cub Koda? bands and names?

“… classic Chicago Blues style was developed in the late ’40s and early ’50s, taking Delta blues, fully amplifying it and putting it into a small-band context.
Adding drums, bass, and piano (sometimes saxophones) to the basic string band and harmonica aggregation, the style created the now standard blues band line-up.
The form was (and is) flexible to accommodate singers, guitarists, pianists, and harmonica players as the featured performer in front of the standard instrumentation.
Later permutations of the style took place in the late ’50s and early ’60s, with new blood taking their cue from the lead guitar work of B. B. King and T-Bone Walker, creating the popular west side sub-genre (which usually featured a horn section appended to the basic rhythm section).
Although the form has also embraced rock beats, it has generally stayed within the guidelines developed in the 1950s and early ’60s. — Cub Koda
