Hi Guys,
We have just auditionjed and got the gig and now we need to find two 45 minute sets in the vein of katie meluas ‘my aphrodesiac is you’
We are talking Rhythm and blues (not the conventional sort but not as obvious as billie holiday) and NOT alicia keys – the songs need to be for a mezzo ideally, not soprano.
Any ideas will be welcome, we already have thought of Madeleine Peyroux and Eartha Kitt and now we want some other ideas
Thanks in advance music lovers!

I had a similar problem when I needed to learn some blues tracks for jam nights.
Ike and Tina did some awesome blues tracks in the early days – (check out Ike and tina Turner – the blue thumb years)
Mean Old World (quick change slow 12 bar in B) is a great one to do.
Proud Mary, 5 long years and Dust My Broom. all of these are 12 bar or variations on a 12 bar so may get a bit samey
Tracy chapman – give me one reason to stay here ( I’m mezzio too and sing it in G)
Halleluia – jeff buckley/ Kd Land – very bluesy but very depressing
Alot of Eric claptons Stuff again in the early years is great for female vocal and again bluesy.
You may also want to check out some country stuff like Reba McIntyre as they can be adapted and again are great for Mezzios.
hope this helps and good luck for the gig.
Oh I forgot to metion – Etta James, Erma Franklin and Aretha Franklin.
