Why is it that a lot of hip-hop/R&B songs talk about sex?

Thursday, February 5th, 2009

trust me. I’m a mature teenager and i love songs that are played these days. But at the same time i get so sick and disgusted of how most of the songs on the radio talk about sex and how they all immorally disrespects women. I remember someone say, “people wonder why r&b songs describe sex and stuff but if it wasn’t for that, RnB can’t exist.” but Wikipedia says this: [Writer/producer Robert Palmer defines "rhythm & blues as a catchall term referring to any music that was made by and for black Americans.] You can go to Wikipedia and read on more about it and it doesn’t really mention the word “sex.”
Of course there are some songs that are really deep and meaningful but i’m really talking about the songs that are considered “smash” and “hit.” can someone please explain this to meeee i’m just so fed up with trashy songs.

Oops! I locked the all caps button again! Sorry! The song Summer Madness http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5bfzWj5a_Y4 by Kool & The Gang is one of the coolest songs ever! With that being said do you think the song belongs in the Genre of Rhythm & Blues or would it be appropriate to link it to the Jazz category? What do you think?

Why are there rock questions in the R&B/soul section?

Saturday, December 13th, 2008

Why are the rock questioners goin’ to ask their questions in the R&B section about rock artists/bands? Is there not enough room to ask their question in the rock section that they must come ova here? I know it gets confusing for some rock n’ rollers because they sometimes also use the terminology ‘rhythm & blues’ to describe rock music also. But it makes no sense. Especially if they are actually looking for an answer (or multi-answers). I ain’t hatin’ (don’t think that I am because I do like some rock music) but this just don’t add up. Whatchoo think?

You know what I think.

Who will win the Grammy 4 Best Contemporary R&B Album?

Monday, October 27th, 2008

The nominees are…

“Growing Pains” Mary J. Blige
“Back of My Lac’” J. Holiday
“First Love” Karina
“Year of the Gentleman” Ne-Yo
“Fearless” Jazmine Sullivan

I’m watching “Mad” by Ne-Yo on Youtube on another browser. I’m very much impressed w/ today’s rhythm & blues artists. I don’t c “As I Am” by Alicia Keys on here; I assume it was nomin8d last year. & I think “Growing Pains” came out during the 1st days of the eligibility period; it came out last fall. Un4tunately Hot 94.1, Bakersfield’s most-listened-2 station, plays a mix of hip-hop w/ R&B, so I guess I can only find pure R&B stations online. That could explain y I never really heard anything regularly from MJB, not even “Just Fine.” Ne-Yo is certainly the most popular on Hot 94.1, & he’s popular w/ some of the Answerers. I’m impressed w/ him myself; I think he sets the archetype for male R&B crooners. That said, he can win this. But perhaps some recognition should go to Jasmine Sullivan as well. I never really heard Karina’s hits, & I’ve only heard J. Holiday’s “Bed” & “Suffocate.”

So who do u like? Any Karina, J. Holiday or Jazmine Sullivan fans out there? The 51st Grammys take place 2/8 on CBS.
